President’s letter Quarter 1 – 2017

Dear VietHope friends

After finishing 2016 with new heights in scholarship impact and fundraising, we at VietHope have been working hard in the last few months on strengthening our operations, organizational structure, and visions for 2017 and beyond. In this letter, I will give an overview of VietHope’s achievements in 2016 and our exciting plans for 2017 and beyond. I would also encourage you to follow our Facebook account for more detailed and frequently updated news about VietHope’s activities.

Overview of 2016

Plans for 2017 and Beyond

Organizational changes

First of all, I am thrilled to announce the election of Hien Vuong as VietHope’s new Vice President. Based in Oakland, California, Hien has been involved with VietHope for 1.5 years, lending instrumental support for building the Youth Workshop Program and our donor relations system. Hien focuses on the organization and management of our staff and volunteers, and has already been hard at work creating structures and processes to provide more visibility into our operations.

I also would like to congratulate Thanh Nguyen and Dong Le, who have been recently promoted to Directors on our Vietnam team. Thanh and Dong will directly be responsible for overseeing internal affairs of VietHope in Vietnam, while anh Phong Nguyen, our Executive Director, will spend more time on external communications.

Scholarship programs

Our fundraising successes in 2016 emboldens our programs’ expansion and development in 2017 and beyond. We plan to increase our budget for the University scholarship program (USP)  by 50% in 2017, with inflation-adjusted increases in the following years. After the Youth workshop program (YWP)’s resounding success in its first year of implementation, we are doubling this program’s coverage by expanding it to college students in the Mekong Delta in 2017. We have more exciting plans in the works that I hope to share with you in later newsletters!

That’s it! We hope that you enjoy hearing in detail about these programs. Please continue your generous support to build a stronger VietHope so we can serve many more deserving students in Vietnam.
