President’s letter Quarter 2 – 2016

Dear VietHope friends,

Since VietHope’s early days, we have taken seriously the tasks of monitoring and evaluating our programs, setting us apart from peer non-profit organizations. In this quarterly letter, I would like to walk you through an overview of our Merit scholarship program’s statistics, and update you on our brand new Youth Workshop Program that provides year-round training and mentoring to VietHope’s university scholarship students.

Merit Scholarship Analytics

In 2015, VietHope awarded Merit Scholarships to 160 students (⅔ of them were female) in Saigon, Hue and Hanoi regions. The Merit Program successfully identified and provided financial support to many students who face tremendous hardship: ¾ of the recipients are from households that earned less than half of the national median income.

Against all odds, Merit recipients demonstrated great high academic performance, as more than 95% of them earned good academic standings during the 2014-2015 school year.

Youth Workshop Program (YWP)

After successfully piloting the Youth Development Program Expansion for the last three quarters, we are excited to announce its official launch, now as the Youth Workshop Program (YWP). Through quarterly/monthly workshops and informal study sessions, YWP aims to equip VietHope’s university scholarship students with outside-of-classroom skill-sets and knowledge essential for starting their careers.

The 3rd workshop, featuring “Network: Success in work and life,” took place at the University of Science on June 26. The invited speakers, two successful young business professionals, enthusiastically shared with an audience of around 100 lessons on how to network successfully. YWP has been an amazing success that not only energizes our Vietnam team but also attracts students and guests to join VietHope.

We hope that you enjoy hearing in details about these programs. Again, thank you for your time and support. Please continue your generous support to build a stronger VietHope so we can serve many more deserving students in Vietnam. Online donations for students can be made at our website.
