On May 17, 2020 in Can Gio District (HCMC), the Merit Development Program (MDP or Merit) scholarship award ceremony was held for 83 disadvantaged but talented, passion-driven students from 3 high schools. The Covid-19 pandemic delayed the awarding of the scholarships, but VietHope worked hard to bring these scholarships to the students as soon as conditions permitted.

Dịch Covid-19 đã làm chậm trễ việc trao học bổng, nhưng VietHope đã nỗ lực đem những phần học bổng này đến các em ngay khi điều kiện cho phép.

Nguyen Chanh Man is a student of the F10 generation of Summit Hue. Man received Merit scholarship in grade sixth (2010). His father passed away when he was 4 years old, so his mother had to work hard to support her three children to go to school by selling vegetables at the market.

With the Merit Scholarship, this was the first time that VietHope was piloting how to score MDP documents in Can Gio through a detailed scale aimed at professionalizing the application process as well as specifying and enhancing transparency and quantification of assessment results for MDP student recipients. VietHope hopes these improvements will bring many long-term benefits to scholarships in the future.
