The Merit Scholarship provides $120 USD scholarships to students.
The scholarship award is given to a scholarship recipient twice a year (early September and early February) in the amount of $60.
The scholarships are renewable up to grade 12, as long as the scholarship recipient continues to perform well in school.
The program’s goal is to help students stay in school and continue their education rather than begin working or farming early.
Recipients are selected based jointly on financial poverty and academic performance.
Program Highlights
Currently, we are supporting 250 students. Over the past 6 years, we have given out 586 awards. This number includes students who have received the Merit Scholarship award for more than 1 year.
Our award recipients are from many rural areas throughout Vietnam (Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Tien Giang, Vung Tau, Hanoi, Hue, Mekong Delta and other areas).
Merit students who have completed grades 12 have entered into top universities where they continue to keep in touch with VietHope staff. Some of the universities that our students have been admitted to are the following:
Can Tho University
Hanoi Polytechnic University
Dong Thap General Education College
Nha Trang University
Ha Tinh General Education College
What You Can Do Today
An annual donation of $120, or $10 a month, will give a child in need the invaluable gifts of school tuition, education materials, school uniforms, and other education-related expenses.
Sponsors who donate to the Merit Scholarship Program will receive an annual letter from their student. We match students to sponsors from a pool of students who have been selected into the Merit Scholarship, but do not have a sponsor yet. These students are supported by VietHope until we find sponsors.
