Nam Tran Nguyen

Co-founder; Former President and Board Member

Nam is COO and Head of Infrastructure Assets at Generate Capital, with prior C-level roles at First Solar and SunPower, and serves on the boards of Generac (NYSE: GNRC) and AMP Americas. For Nam, VietHope is impact and friendship in one, a circle of friends determined to give Vietnamese students a real shot at a better future, one that keeps growing far beyond what she ever imagined. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Columbia University.

Kim-Son H. Nguyen

Kim-Son H.Nguyen

Co-founder

Kim-Son is Medical Director of Hematology-Oncology at Sutter Health, leading clinical trials that improve cancer care worldwide, including in lower-resource settings. He co-founded VietHope to invest in Vietnam's next generation while staying close to lifelong friends, guided by the belief that service is at the heart of a meaningful life. Kim-Son earned his MD from Harvard Medical School and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, completing his fellowship at Stanford.

Uyen-Khanh Quang-Dang

Co-founder; Former Board Member

Uyen-Khanh is a Geriatric Psychiatrist whose career spans clinical practice, cultural psychiatry, and mental health advocacy, including national leadership roles with the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the APA Foundation. She co-founded VietHope with her Harvard Vietnamese American peers as an undergraduate in 2002, inspired by deep gratitude for the fortunate circumstances of her own life, a gratitude that grew into a lifelong commitment to expanding educational and economic opportunities for talented, hardworking Vietnamese students. Uyen-Khanh attended Harvard College, earned her MS from the Harvard School of Public Health and her MD from New York Medical College, and trained in psychiatry at UCSF.

Van-Thi Huynh

Co-founder

Van-Thi is Founder and CEO of VIAM Capital & VIAM Builders in San Jose, CA. At Harvard, he and the other co-founders formed a close-knit "Reading Club," gathering to discuss Vietnamese poetry and literature, a space where shared stories turned into a shared conviction to give back. That conviction became VietHope. Van-Thi holds an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School and an MD from the University of Witten/Herdecke.

Lynn Huynh

Lynn Huynh

Co-founder

Lynn is a Vice President at Analysis Group, specializing in health economics research that has shaped treatment studies across a wide range of diseases. She has been part of VietHope's journey since its founding, bringing the same rigor and care to supporting Vietnamese students as she does to her research. Lynn holds a DrPH in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a BA in Chemistry from Harvard University.

Hansel Pham

Hansel Pham

Co-founder; Board Member

Hansel is Executive Partner of White & Case LLP's Washington, D.C. office and Board Chair of Asian American LEAD. He has watched VietHope grow from a group of friends' idea into a lasting force for change in the lives of Vietnamese youth. Hansel earned his JD from Harvard Law School and a BA in Economics and East Asian Studies from Harvard University.

Uyen Kim Huynh

Uyen Kim is a Senior Research Scientist at UNICEF. Driven by the belief that education is the most powerful catalyst for lifelong success, she is committed to breaking down the scholarship barriers that hold back Vietnam's young, hardworking, and resilient population. Uyen Kim holds a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from Harvard University, an MS in Economics from Cornell University, and a BA in Biology, and completed postdoctoral work in Development Economics at Columbia University.

Sam Nguyen

Sam Nguyen

Former Board Member

Sam retired from Roche/Genentech as a Pharmaceutical Research Chemist and later worked as a Patent Attorney representing pharmaceutical companies. He is honored to support VietHope's mission, which provides the financial, structural, and educational catalyst Vietnamese students need at the most critical stage of their lives, work made possible by the organization's generous community of supporters. Sam holds a PhD in Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley as an NIH Fellow.

Eoin Matthews

Former Board Member

Eoin is Co-founder of Point, building innovative home equity solutions, with earlier leadership roles at VigLink and Buy.com/Rakuten. He served on VietHope's Board for five years, helping fund and oversee thousands of scholarships for students in Vietnam through rigorous, best-in-class programs. Eoin earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Ireland, Galway.

Phong Le Tien

Phong Le

Former Board Member

Phong has built his career in the NGO sector, currently with the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation in Vietnam, with prior roles at Room to Read and ActionAid. His deep commitment to community development led him to VietHope, where he served as Executive Director starting in 2019 and later as a Board Member through 2025. Phong holds an MSc in Natural Resource Management from the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

Tue spent 22 years at Genentech before leading R&D at a nonprofit developing treatments for neglected diseases worldwide. He is drawn to VietHope's unique mission to provide financial support and develop the social and professional skills of underprivileged students, a mission his wife once summed up after meeting the team in Saigon: wonder at how such kind, talented, and hardworking young people came to be. Tue earned a BS in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Saigon, and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kansas.

Tien Anh is Chief Financial Officer at Katalon, with prior leadership roles as Chief Business Officer and CFO at UserTesting. He served on VietHope's Board of Directors for six years, supporting the organization's mission to create educational opportunities and scholarships for talented, financially disadvantaged students across Vietnam. Tien Anh holds a BA in Mathematics from Harvard University and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Quang is a Product Manager in edtech at Art of Problem Solving, with prior experience in fintech, management consulting, education strategy, investment banking, and teaching. For Quang, VietHope embodies the values of education and compassion instilled by her parents, and has become a home where she's found, and hopes others will find, lifelong friendships rooted in living out those values. A Soros Fellow, she holds an MBA and an MA in Education from Stanford University and a BA in Social Studies from Harvard University.

Quang is a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Google Research, specializing in Healthcare AI that expands equitable access to medical care worldwide, and serves on the San Francisco County Civil Grand Jury, contributing to government transparency and accountability. His commitment to VietHope began twenty years ago, when he first met our scholars and witnessed their determination matched only by their eagerness to give back, proof that education is the most powerful tool for collective progress. Quang holds a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan and a degree from Harvard College.

Anh is an Investment Professional at P2 Capital Partners, with prior experience at Tailwind Capital Partners and Piper Jaffray. He joined VietHope in 2014 and later served as its President, drawn to the organization while seeking ways to give back to Vietnam through education. Having personally experienced education's transformative power, Anh remains deeply committed to expanding that opportunity to others. He earned a BA in Chemistry and Mathematics with a minor in Economics from Bowdoin College.

Vi is Director of Data Science at QuestBridge, with prior experience at the City Colleges of Chicago and the U.S. Congressional Budget Office. She joined VietHope as a college freshman 19 years ago, drawn by a deeply personal belief, shaped by her own journey, that access to a good education and the right opportunities can transform a young person's path. That belief still fuels her career today, as she works toward a world where talented youth everywhere can build the life they're capable of. Vi holds a BA in Economics from Yale University and an MS in Computational Analysis and Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

Hien Vuong

Former Vice President

Hien is Partner and Co-Founder of Mycel Holdings and Founder of Aline Development, building sustainable, recession-resilient real estate projects across Vietnam, with a track record of 11 LEED-certified developments. She served as VietHope's Vice President for nearly four years, leading fundraising initiatives that grew the organization's scholarship endowment fund. Hien holds a Master of Architecture from UC Berkeley and a BBA from George Washington University.

Tien leads Tech for Ads Core Machine Learning at Meta, specializing in recommender systems and ML infrastructure. Having grown up in Vietnam before building his career in the Bay Area, he believes education is the only permanent bridge between where a student starts and where they belong. His motto: "Invest in potential, empower a future." Tien holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, an MS from the University of Washington, and a BS from the National University of Singapore.

Phong is a Tennis and Pickleball coach, continuing his mission of developing people through sports and education. His journey with VietHope began in 1994 as a second-year Mathematics and Computer Science student volunteering with the Green Bridge (Nhip Cau Xanh) team on community projects; he joined VietHope itself in 2002 supporting scholarship programs for disadvantaged students, became Executive Director of VietHope Vietnam in 2008 leading nationwide scholarship initiatives and the Young Generation Development Program, and transitioned to an advisory role in 2018, mentoring young leaders and supporting student startups.
