VSDP: Strange yet familiar program

On the way to carrying out the mission of providing a better education for Vietnamese youth, VietHope has offered  financial support and organized many skill development programs for students. From the school year 2021-2022, VietHope will integrate its programs into the overall “VietHope Student Development Program” (VSDP) with the goal of providing a more comprehensive support for students throughout their college years. VietHope’s target audience is the first-year public  university students who are eligible for  the USP program that will start or continue enrolling in 9 universities, including 7 partner schools from the beginning of the school year and 2 new additional schools which are Kien Giang University, and Faculty of Engineering and Technology – Hue University. The list of our total 9 partner schools is as follow:

  • Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry
  • University of Economics – Hue University
  • University of Science – Hue University
  • Faculty of Engineering and Technology – Hue University
  • University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City
  • Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences
  • University of Social Sciences and Humanities Ho Chi Minh City

  • Kien Giang University

In the academic year 2021-2022, the VietHope Student Development Program plans to  provide a total support amount equivalent to 1,000 USD/student (including financial support and skill development) to 80 students during 4 college years, specifically:

The University Scholarship Program (USP) is designed for disadvantaged students who have a strong desire to succeed academically, who have a strong sense of personal and social development, and the potential to be future leaders. The scholarship, worth USD 400 per person, is awarded to alleviate the financial difficulties of the first year at university, and allows students  to focus on their  studies and on maximizing their capacity. If they meet USP’s scholarship renewal criteria, 80 selected students will be able to continue receiving USD 200 per scholarship into their second year of university.

In addition to the USP Scholarship, which provides financial support for 2 years of study, the VietHope Student Development Program also includes skills development programs (YDP, YWP, ADP, MP) with an equivalent value of 400 USD/person. In the summer of their freshman year at university, students can participate in the Youth Development Program (YDP) organized by VietHope for students in the South and Hue for 1 week. Students will be guided to learn skills such as communication, teamwork, community project management, and critical thinking. Following the speaker sessions, you will plan and carry out community projects in a real-world setting. In addition, VietHope cooperates with prestigious speakers to organize inspirational talk shows through the series of Youth Workshop Program (YWP). Moreover, as part of the Alumni Development Program (ADP), students have the opportunity to participate in training sessions and visit companies with the assistance of experts from a variety of fields. Students in their third and fourth years participate in the Mentorship Program (MP) with mentors who have practical experience.

The scholarship selection criteria include:

  • Be a first-year full-time student at 9 partner universities or a student receiving an MDP (Merit) scholarship in the last year of high school and will enter a full-time university/college.
  • Experience financial difficulty in pursuing education: have difficult economic circumstances, family income is not enough to cover expenses related to study.
  • Have a forward-thinking attitude and eagerness to learn: have excellent academic achievement, demonstrate the ability to overcome current obstacles to achieve future goals, and have a strong desire to learn.
  • Have leadership potential and a sense of community development: have the potential and desire to become a leader in the future and create a positive impact on society.

The freshmen receiving this scholarship need to meet certain fund criteria to be eligible for scholarships and training programs in subsequent years.

The VSDP 2021-2022 program is entirely online this year, from the stage of the organization to the review of application instructions and the interview. Even though it has only recently been completely implemented in this new form, all plans and stages of the program have been implemented extremely successfully up to now. These accomplishments are the result of not only the efforts of the organizers but also of a combination of support from school volunteers, of whom the majority are former VietHope-ers. This further proves that -VietHope’s influence is growing, bringing  the good values of love that the foundation has built up over the years to more and more students.

The admission process of the scholarship is implemented according to the following time frame:

September 20, 2021: Deployment and receipt of applications

October 31, 2021: Deadline to receive applications

December 2021: Interview and award scholarships

At this moment, the program has been going well ,and there are only a few days left before the scholarship closes. Previously, the VietHope fanpage was always updated and quickly answered students’ questions. From the opening “Info session” to the question-and-answer interview of Mr. Le Tien Phong – currently the CEO of VietHope in Vietnam, which has received a lot of positive feedback and great interest from a large number of students.
